TTT boys at Nick Bollettieri Academy

Seven promising juniors from Tamil Nadu are undergoing a month-long stint at the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy, Florida, USA under the ‘Advantage Tamil Nadu Tennis Program’ of the Tamil Nadu Tennis Association (TNTA). This includes two students from TTT, Neeraj Elangovan and Ramkumar Ramanthan (second from left and third from right respectively in the photo). Joining them is Mohammed Yunus (extreme right). Yunus, son of TTT’s coach, Hidayatullah, trains under Hiten Joshi of TNTA and also at TTT. TTT’s Technical Director, Chandra (centre), is with the team. Also seen in the photo is Nick Bollettieri with whom the boys had a session. The Advantage Programme is a laudable effort to develop future champions and is a joint initiative of TNTA, the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu and IMG, a leading marketing company which organises The Chennai Open.

TTT ties up with Babolat

TTT is pleased to announce an association with Babolat commencing 1st Jan 2009. Pierre Babolat created the first tennis strings in the year 1875 - one year after Walter Clopton Wingfield patented his game of lawn tennis in Britain. For 125 years, Babolat has been innovating and developing new products for new achievements. Today, Babolat is certainly one of the most prominent brands in tennis, endorsed by several leading players such as Rafael Nadal, Andy Roddick, Fernando Gonzalez, Carlos Moya, Nadia Petrova and Dinara Safina.
V M Ranjeet – the new Indian men’s national champion
Ranjeet who won the DSCL Men's National Tennis Championships at New Delhi last week started tennis at the age of five under George Athirstum at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore. He was selected by the Britannia Amritraj Tennis Academy (BAT) at the age of eleven and trained there for four years with Ilyas Hussain and Ramalinga Reddy under the watchful eyes of the Amritraj brothers. For the next four years Ranjeet was at TTT honing his skills under Ilyas and his fitness under Mohammed Riaz. At present, he is coached by his father and occasionally by Ilyas.

Ranjeet is currently #5 in the men's rankings in India and # 800 in the ATP Rankings. In August this year, he was awarded the prestigious ‘T K Ramanathan Award’ by TNTA.

TTT wishes Ranjeet many more laurels in the years to come.

Following a Dream
Neeraj Elangovan is all of 13. But, he has a clear vision of where he wants to be: on the tennis court. Already, a large part of his day is spent at TTT where he arrives early in the morning for an hour of fitness training and some tennis. He is back in the evening for more. Small wonder then that he has been selected for a month’s training at the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy, USA.

Neeraj is keen on a career in tennis. With Roger Federer as his role model, it is clear that he has set his sights high. Neeraj has analysed his game well, and believes that his strength is his serve. He hopes to improve his all round game at the Nick Bollettieri Academy.

Neeraj’s other hobbies too centre around sports – football and computer games. And, surprisingly, this youngster claims he likes cooking too, though he has not gone beyond making pasta. He likes to go out with his friends to the beach and restaurant in free time.

Watch out for more on this kid!

Vishwanathan: Coach
A man of few words, 39 year old Vishwanathan has been with TTT since 1985 and is one of the long standing employees of TTT. Having joined as a ball boy, he gradually developed an interest in tennis and after serving as marker for a while was elevated to the position of coach. Vishu, as he is affectionately called, has participated in the several markers’ tournaments reaching up to the quarter final level

Vishu likes to spend spare time with his two sons aged 7 and 3, taking them to the beach and temple.
