  29th Annual TTT Tournament - Jan 2013

An unprecedented 900 entries, nearly 700 players including 80 from outside Chennai, more than 650 qualifying matches over the first four days, energetic and enthusiastic youngsters, great tennis and worthy winners…we could not have asked for more!

    Jonathan’s second camp at TTT

Jonathan Stubbs, till recently Director of Player Development, Hong Kong Tennis Association, and presently Director, Court 28 (a Hong Kong based company engaged in sports coaching and consultancy services) was back at TTT for his second tennis clinic from 26th Jan to 3rd Feb 2013. Twenty two of our promising trainees were put through some intensive drills. “Amazing group of kids” was Jonathan’s reaction.

Ranjeet Virali Murugesan played his maiden Davis Cup match for India during the Group 1 Asia/Oceania tie against South Korea at New Delhi in the first week of Feb 2013. Here’s wishing Ranjeet many more years of service to the nation!

R S Mohit and Shrayashree Thiyagarajan received the Tamil Nadu Tennis Association’s ‘President Award for Most Promising Player’ at a function in April 2012.

Eighteen year old Ramkumar Ramanathan, the National Junior Tennis Champion in 2009 and 2010 , received ‘Young Achiever’ Award from Rotary Club of Madras East at a function in Chennai on 14th Nov 2012. It was a day to remember for him as two Indian tennis legends, Mr R Krishnan and Mr Ramesh Krishnan, were present to felicitate him.

Ramkumar’s current Association of Tennis Professionals Men’s singles ranking is 788. He hopes to enter the top 500 by next year and soon earn a shot at the Indian Davis Cup Team.

At the same function, promising 10-year old tennis player from TTT, S Sharaniyan, received the ‘Sivan Arul Selvan’ scholarship from Mr R Krishnan. This annual cash award is given by Rotary Club of Madras East to deserving youngsters in the field of sports. Sharaniyan was also the recipient of ‘MRL Award for Outstanding Performance by a TTT Player’ during our 29th Annual Tournament.

Aditi Baskar and Anjana Rajendran represented their school, Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan, Nungambakkam, in the Under 19 Girls’ Team and secured the first position in the CBSE - South Zone Championship 2012-13 Tennis Tournament held at SDAT Stadium, Chennai in November 2012. Their school was awarded the rolling trophy.

Gokul Suresh was selected to represent the Chennai District in the First Tamil Nadu State Level Inter District Tennis Tournament for the Chief Minister’s Trophy. He teamed up with three other players from Chennai including Ramkumar. Chennai District finished as the runners up in the tournament.
